A four-hour drive from Chiang Mai brought us north A four-hour drive from Chiang Mai brought us north to Chiang Rai — an easy journey made even better with stops along the way, including the striking White Temple Wat Rong Khun and one of our favorite meals of the trip (🍔🍔) at Emma Divit, a charming riverside family-owned bakery and restaurant.

From there, we arrived at one of the most special stays I’ve ever experienced: the exclusive Four Seasons Tented Camp Golden Triangle, magically set in the jungle where Thailand, Laos, and Myanmar meet along the Mekong River.

We spent three unforgettable nights here, welcoming the New Year in a way I’ll never forget — releasing candle-lit lanterns into the sky and watching hundreds of tea lights float down the Mekong.

With just 15 luxury tents with every amenity imaginable, the camp feels intimate and deeply personal. Everything about the experience — the setting, the people, the elephants and pace — was thoughtful and intentional. Mixing in a deep tie to elephant conservation, this is definitely among our top stays of all time.

Some highlights that stood out in our experience.
• Arriving by longboat along the Mekong River
• Daily breakfasts with two rescued elephants Linda and Plum, cared for by the Golden Triangle Asian Elephant Foundation
• Walking with several of the elephants (there are 20 rescues) and learning their heartbreaking individual stories and personalities.
• A private BBQ dinner, ending with lanterns released into the night sky (poorly timed on our part might add)
• A private cooking class where we made fried rice, chicken pad Thai (our favorite of the trip), and mango sticky rice
• Sublime treatments in an open air pavilion.
• Staying in the beyond stunning two-pavilion Explorer’s Lodge, with a pool seemingly floating above the jungle

More than anything, it was the people that resonated the most. A superlative experience.

Coming next: A very selective and subjective list of the key 2026 hotels openings that are worth planning around.

As the year wraps, I’m thinking less about how man As the year wraps, I’m thinking less about how many hotels I stayed in — and more about the ones that genuinely stayed with me throughout 2025… the places that earn permanent spots on my recommendation lists.

I experienced so many remarkable properties firsthand this past year that truly delivered beyond the hype and headlines to where it counts: personalized service, a strong sense of place, and a unique thoughtful style.

My 2025 Stays that stood out (in no particular order):

* Four Seasons Surfside, Miami — A perennial beachfront favorite north of Miami. One of my favorite hotel bars
* Palm Beach Palm House — A fun, fresh newcomer - exactly what Palm Beach needed
* Adare Manor, Ireland — A true six-star experience in a jaw-dropping castle setting
* Cashel Palace, Ireland — Horse-country heaven in a beautifully restored historic house
* Enasoit, Kenya — A magical, family-owned private camp in the Laikipia highlands
* Cottar’s Camp, Kenya — A romantic Out of Africa–style tented camp in a remote corner of the Mara
* Peponi Hotel, Kenya — Low-key yet cultish; a longtime family-owned seaside boutique in Shela
* 137 Pillars Chiang Mai — A 30-suite boutique oasis in the heart of the city
* Four Seasons Tented Camp, Golden Triangle — An unforgettable way to end the year at this elephant-centric ultra-luxe jungle hideaway in northern Thailand.
* Les Fermes de Marie, Megève — Rustic-chic alpine farmhouse retreat
* Four Seasons George V, Paris — Elegant, traditional, and unapologetically Parisian amid a sea of modern alternatives
* The Emory, London — An ultra-discreet newcomer redefining with epic rooftop bar
* Maslina Resort, Croatia — Secluded, chic seaside wellness retreat on Hvar
* One&Only Portonovi, Montenegro —A grand show-stopping property with killer spa

Four places I visited without overnight stays, yet left a lasting impression

* Lemongarten, Brač — A chic farmhouse hideaway with stunning grounds on island of Brač
* Villa Dubrovnik, Dubrovnik — Visited pre-reopening; stylish and luxe in Dubrovnik
* Faena New York - Faena brings its vibe and drop dead interiors to NYC
* At Sloane London - Sexy boutique hideaway in Chelsea.
Following the beach days of Phuket, the walled cit Following the beach days of Phuket, the walled city of Chiang Mai was a terrific two-night addition to our trip before heading further north and offering a completely different energy.

Home to over 300 temples, vibrant street food markets and artisan shops and independent coffee shops (Chiang Mai is Thailand’s coffee capital), Chiang Mai was a great place to soak in local culture along with an afternoon visiting an ethical elephant sanctuary nearby (more on this in a separate post). There is a great vibe to this ancient city.

Our choice of stay: the utterly charming 30-suite boutique (SLH) hotel 137 Pillars, an oasis in the center of the city whose original teak structure (lovingly restored and home to the bar and restaurant) once served as the HQ of the Borneo Trading Center. From the aim-to-please staff to the beautiful grounds (with that dramatic pool) and interiors to the spacious suites, each with outdoor verandahs and individual personal concierge, this is the type of property I adore: One with a history and true sense of place, thoughtful attention to details coupled with genuine, warm hospitality.

Thailand, stop one: Phuket 🌴 After two long fligh Thailand, stop one: Phuket 🌴

After two long flights and serious jet lag, starting our 12-day Thailand trip with a beach resort was exactly the reset we needed. Phuket — especially in December — felt like the right place to ease into the rhythm of the trip.

We chose Anantara Mai Khao Villas, an exclusive villa-only resort in northwest Phuket, just 20 minutes from the airport (a huge plus after long-haul travel). The resort has been getting extra attention after being featured in White Lotus Season 3, making this my second firsthand experience with the so-called “White Lotus effect.”

With just 83 pool villas and a compact layout, the newly renovated resort feels intimate, lush, and easy to navigate — ideal for families and travelers planning to spend most of their time on property. We paired our stay with two full-day yacht excursions to nearby islands (highly recommended). After having to abort our second trip an hour in due to rough seas, I recommend a yacht which we did earlier in the week

Good to know
• The beach here is part of a national park, so there are no beach loungers or beach service. For us, the natural setting made up for it.
• The resort is more remote than other luxe hotels like Amanpuri, Rosewood, or Trisara, which are closer to marinas and Phuket Town. I personally loved the quieter, less developed feel and proximity to airport.
• The walkable layout works great for families.

What we loved
• Our spacious two-bedroom indoor/outdoor pool villa
• Beautifully maintained grounds and serene atmosphere
• Outstanding service from Sunny, our butler and team
• A standout spa with excellent therapists

What didn’t quite land
• The main beachfront pool is the only shared pool, and during the holidays it was difficult to enjoy with many young children
• Inconsistent pool service and a limited menu
• A nearby unethical elephant-feeding attraction in Turtle Village (not affiliated with the hotel), was very upsetting to see

When you book Anantara properties through me, you receive added benefits such as welcome amenities, priority upgrades, flexible check-in/out (subject to availability) and dedicated point person.

•72 hours in Megève ❄️🛷🧀 Just one hour drive from •72 hours in Megève ❄️🛷🧀

Just one hour drive from Geneva is the impossibly pretty mountain town of Megève. We spent 72 hours here at the very start of the season — perfectly timed for the annual Xmas tree lighting, fresh snowfall, and a first look at some of the area’s top hotels just opening for the season.

From chalet-style classics to newly redesigned favorites, our days were filled with hotel visits, shopping (bien sur), and of course… eating. Think bubbling cheese fondue, raclette, hot cocoa - Alpine staples.

I was utterly charmed by this postcard-perfect town with cobblestone streets and horse-drawn carriages, chic shops and cozy restaurants and both superb people and dog 🐾 watching. Sophisticated but not pretentious, Megeve is a true Alpine village with great style and charm.
